About Michael lewis
Michael’s background in Emergency Services comes with over 25 years of experience in emergency medical care, training, continuing education, and certification, with an emphasis in system oversight and direction for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). In these roles, he was responsible for emergency response, tactical EMS, technical rescue, hazardous materials, water rescue, and weapons of mass destruction.
After retiring from EMS full-time, Michael transitioned into Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) with a focus on Fire Protection and Life Safety, where his responsibilities included emergency services in both the industrial and research and development settings. He later became one of two corporate subject matter experts in the Fire Protection / Life Safety domains, where he conducted compliance audits at industrial facilities throughout North America and aided in developing action plans and implementing measures to correct identified deficiencies.
Most recently, Michael has worked to protect public health and the environment while supporting the nation’s nuclear deterrent with Emergency Management / Preparedness at the Savannah River Site, in Aiken, SC. In this role, he leads the Emergency Response Training & Evaluation Group where his experience and education aid in the development and maintenance of the Savannah River Site Emergency Preparedness Program.
Mr. Lewis has a certificate in Mechanical Drafting from New Horizons Technical Center in Virginia and attended Anderson College (University) in South Carolina where he studied Art and Design. He was certified as a Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) through the University of Iowa and has completed the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) Professional Development Series, as well as the Integrated Emergency Management Certificate. In 2005, he was awarded the “Stars of Life” Award by the American Ambulance Association and received congressional recognition for his leadership and excellence in EMS education.
